Appalachian dulcimer

For years Lorraine collaborated with dulcimer makers Walt and Michael Martin at Sunhearth Musical Instruments in Roaring Spring, PA. Together they refined a dulcimer design that became known as the Lorraine Lee model, featuring a custom designed pick-up by Boston area musician/electronics whiz Larry Fishman.

When Walt was preparing to retire from dulcimer building in 1991 his friend of many decades, Dwain Wilder, went down to Roaring Spring and studied the art and craft with Walt, then established Bear Meadow Folk Instruments. in Rochester, NY.

Dwain and Lorraine have collaborated on the design of the Lorraine Lee Hammond model Appalachian dulcimer. Features include the built-in Fishman pick-up, swan shaped soundholes and a curved bridge to allow bowing - a state of the art instrument.
