My Mother's Face
©2002, Lorraine Lee Hammond, Snowy Egret Music, BMI

I look in the mirror and I see my mother's face
To my surprise I recognize her humor and her grace
Through the looking glass the past and present cautiously embrace.
I look in the mirror and I see my mother's face.

I can hear my mother's words as I console a friend
I pour the tea, my Mom taught me a cuppa helps transcend Most any hurt,
at least until a heart has time to mend.
I can hear my mother's words as I console a friend,

I smile my mother's smile as the snow begins to fall.
Muffled by the winter sky I hear the wild geese call
And the red fox stops to listen too, over on the old stone wall.
I smile my mother's smile as the snow begins to fall.

And so the seasons circle now before my changing eyes.
Winter turns the meadow pond into a paradise
Of snow that drifts and dances every time the North Wind sighs.
All the while spring is singing just beneath the ice.

I look in the mirror and I see my mother's face
To my surprise I recognize her humor and her grace
Through the looking glass the past and present lovingly embrace.
I look in the mirror and I see my mother's face.
